Getting Started with NVIDIA Virtual GPU (vGPU) Software 8.0 for Citrix Hypervisor (XenServer) 8.0 with Windows Server 2019!

If you've been following my blog posts over the last couple weeks, you have probably seen two major products have released to web, one shortly after the other. Here are two of my more recent posts: NVIDIA Virtual GPU Software v8.0 Just Released! Now Supporting Windows 10 1809 and Windows Server 2019! - Dated April 16th, 2019 Citrix Hypervisor (formerly XenServer) 8.0 Just Released! Now Supporting Windows Server 2019! - Dated April 25th, 2019 As you can see from the dates on these two blog posts, XenServer 8.0 was released within two weeks of NVIDIA vGPU Software v8.0. Many of us in the Citrix/NVIDIA community were left wondering if this [...]

Citrix Hypervisor (formerly XenServer) 8.0 Just Released! Now Supporting Windows Server 2019!

As you may have seen, Citrix just released their latest and greatest Hypervisor (formerly XenServer) version 8.0 to web!! As the version number indicates, this is a MAJOR RELEASE. While there are a lot of awesome new features in this release, I primarily wanted to write a blog post to highlight the fact that this is the first release of Citrix Hypervisor that officially supports Windows Server 2019! That's awesome. This has been long awaited by many Citrix Hypervisor (aka XenServer) fans like me, and I am stoked to give it a whirl! As with previous releases, Citrix Hypervisor still [...]

What I Learned from CXD-252 Moving to the Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops Service with Microsoft Azure Course

It's not every day I get an opportunity to take an official in-person or virtual classroom lecture and lab course! It's quite easy to get busy working and consulting in the field with clients, that official classroom based training takes a backseat. So, when the opportunity arose to take a five-day online class and knock out a new requirement for my early days Citrix partnership, I was excited to see what new things I might learn. While this course is not brand new (it released in early 2018), it has been well updated and stays somewhat current with the changes [...]

Just in time for the New Year, Citrix Chained Reboot Scripts now support Citrix Cloud and Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD) 7 1811!

The end of the year always comes a time of reflection and planning. As I look into the future projects I am embarking on, I realized that it has now been more than 8 years since my first Citrix Chained Reboot script was released to the web in 2010! This is pretty awesome to reflect, seeing that this was one of the first community resources that encouraged me to launch my first blog site. Now, time for some updates... As more clients begin moving their control plane to Citrix Cloud, I felt it was appropriate to do some testing and [...]

Is Getting Started with Windows Server 2019 and Citrix Cloud Apps and Desktops Service Even Easier? Let’s Have a Look…

Yesterday I wrote a blog post, which you can find here, talking about Windows Server 2019 with Citrix Apps and Desktops 7 1808 (Current Release), which received a bit of buzz online. One online protagonist (who shall remain nameless) reached out to see if Citrix Cloud Apps and Desktops Service with Windows Server 2019 worked as advertised, and was just as easy to implement. To which my thought was, I don't see why not, Citrix Cloud is Agile, DevOps oriented, evergreen and even more leading edge in the development cycles than its on-prem brethren, it should be a snap! Then [...]

The First Commercially Available, High Performance, Multi-Monitor Raspberry Pi for Citrix! Featuring Raspberry Pi Zero!

Last year, I showed how an inexpensive $77 endpoint could be used for Citrix and VMware virtualized environments, to drive a single 4K display. You can find that video here and full blog post here. Over the last couple years there has been a lot of buzz and excitement around the Raspberry Pi, and its application and use within a Citrix environment as a high-performance endpoint, for its low price point. As I had talked with customers, many had become disinterested, due to its inherent limitation as a single monitor (only) solution. A multi-monitor Raspberry Pi option had been made [...]

Citrix Chained Reboot Scripts, now supporting Citrix Cloud, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD), and XenApp/XenDesktop 5, 6, 6.5, and 7.x!

Updated 2018.12.22: Revision 1.9 Now Supports Citrix Cloud! One script now works with all current and modern versions of XenApp, XenDesktop, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops (CVAD), and Citrix Cloud Virtual Apps and Desktops Service from 7.0 and later, through 1811. In zero-downtime 24/7 environments with shift employees, customers rarely want users to be notified of scheduled or mandatory XenApp server reboots. As a result, most of these environments have reboots disabled or this process is done manually. Unfortunately, this isn’t a good process since the XenApp servers are susceptible to memory leaks which can lead to failure and poor performance. [...]

Creating a Load Balanced Multi-Node Citrix StoreFront 2.0 Server Group with NetScaler Gateway 10.1!

Over a year ago I wrote a blog post covering the recently released Citrix Receiver StoreFront 1.0 at the time, which can be found here. Much has changed in the world of Citrix technologies in a year and a half, and I felt it was time to provide an update for the new Citrix StoreFront 2.0 which among other major enhancements has removed the Microsoft SQL database requirement!! Horray! Here’s the updated architectural overview that I will be covering in this blog post: Additionally, you’ll notice updated vernacular relating to the Access Gateway component as CAG VPX (v5.0.x) can be [...]

Creating a Load Balanced Multi-Node Citrix Receiver StoreFront Server Group for use with Citrix CloudGateway

Hopefully, you are well aware that Citrix Web Interface is no longer being developed past the current version, 5.4. Stephane Thirion and Thomas Koetzing have covered product development and some background information well in their excellent blog posts you can find here: Instead of rehashing all the background details, I wanted to go through an advanced multiple server Receiver Storefront deployment with NetScaler being used for load balancing.  Then, I’ll cover the critical components required to connect through Access Gateway Enterprise Edition (on the NetScaler Platform) and Access Gateway VPX (v5.0.4). Let’s start with an architectural overview to discuss the [...]

Installing Citrix NetScaler nCore VPX 9.3 and Access Gateway Enterprise Edition in VMware Workstation for Evaluation Purposes

Several months ago I blogged about installing Access Gateway VPX Express in VMware Workstation. I recently realized that while this post has received numerous hits and comments, a more valuable blog post would focus on installing NetScaler nCore VPX and Access Gateway Enterprise Edition in VMware Workstation! VMware Workstation, or any lab environment for that matter, is the best place for an individual learning or evaluating NetScalers as it is most often isolated or detached from the corporate environment.  The approach will be similar to my post on CAG VPX Express, but in the end we will be ready to [...]
